DIY Simplifying: One Makeup Case

Guess what I'm going to do.  I'm going to share a working mama makeup trick today.
(The world is not ending, I promise.)

For those of you who know me and see my bare face daily, I give you permission to laugh.

You see, I literally rush out the house everyday so it's much easier to whip out one makeup compact wherever I am and put on my face. I try to, at least.  15% successful attempts.

But I like to pretend I'm more professional and grown-up with this in my bag:

I've lived with it for a year and it's great, but it's not a perfect solution yet.  What this kit doesn't have is what I need most: liner, concealer and lip balm.  Come to think of it, that's more of my ideal everyday face than the stuff in this compact!

So one night, I was alone at home for the first time.  Ladybug Girl and Awesome Guy left me to wait for my airport taxi alone, so I got DIY-ing on the perfect travel compact to take with me:

I scraped off the nearly-finished lipstick on the upper right

My concealer went in there:

Scraped to the last bit!  Awesome.

Teeny spoon from Beabi

I gave up an eyeshadow color - just popped it out with a blade:

Scraped it and wiped it clean:

And sliced off a little lip balm!

Then I threw out the old mascara and put in an eyeliner gel pen that fits:

Fifteen minutes later, done!  The new additions stayed in place and survived being schlepped around all week.  The colors didn't mix!  At the rate I'm going, this will last me another year or two.

  1. So clever! I don't really wear make-up except for my eyebrows but this will really come in handy when traveling! Awesome tip! :)
